Skin graft technology hailed as 'breakthrough'

ICX-SKN is the "first artificial living skin graft to demonstrate full, consistent wound integration and persistence". Typically, skin grafts are used, but since these are painful and require another wound being made, there is demand for an alternative. The alternative is apparently ICX-SKN. ICX-SKN is made of human dermal fibroblasts, which is produced by the cells themselves. After an incubation period the ICX-SKN is ready to be packaged, shipped and used. There is one downside though, since they contain living cells, they cannot be properly sterilized. Although this product is fairly new, its future looks promising, and to those suffering from major injuries, it could be just what the doctor called for!
